Skills and experience

This role is responsible for managing and integrating all access and Temporary Speed Restriction (TSR) requests, ensuring work is prioritised to meet business needs and delivered in line with relevant standards. It involves leading effective area and local planning meetings, maintaining accurate and timely planning information, and managing late changes in accordance with Route policies while understanding and mitigating potential Schedule 4 and Schedule 8 impacts.

A key focus of the role is building and maintaining strong, collaborative relationships with Train and Freight Operating Companies (TOCs and FOCs), as well as all works deliverers. The postholder will work closely with these stakeholders to balance safety, performance and service requirements, minimising disruption and supporting the efficient delivery of both planned and emergency work.

The role also includes providing leadership and direction to the planning team through coaching and mentoring, acting as a positive role model to develop capability and enhance performance. Alongside day-to-day delivery, the postholder will champion a proactive continuous improvement culture, sharing knowledge and best practice to drive better outcomes across the business and wider industry.

For this role you need to live within 75/90 minutes of The Quadrant in Milton Keynes. 

Hybrid working: For positions that permit hybrid arrangements, employees are expected to work from a Network Rail location for 60% of their weekly hours, typically 3 days for full time roles, pro-rata for part-time.

The Ideal Candidate

In order to be successful in this role, we would like you to have/to be:

 

¿            Knowledge of relevant train services and network capacity

¿            Able to integrate worksite requests into possessions and optimise the possession plan

¿            Able to specify all aspects of worksite and possession parameters

¿            Able to work under pressure within a continuous planning process

¿            Able to prioritise and organise workload to ensure that deadlines are met

¿            Able to evaluate complex factors and make decisions to maximise benefit 

¿            Good communication skills and a customer focussed approach

¿            Experienced user of Possession Planning System (PPS) and TRUST

¿            Detailed knowledge of the Network Code and Track Access Conditions

¿            Knowledge of the isolation planning process

¿            Able to operate relevant planning systems 

¿            Able to work under pressure within a continuous planning process

¿            Able to engage with customers and build collaborative relationships with stakeholders 

¿            Able to lead a team and motivate team members
