Train Delay Attributor - Your Decisions Keep Britain Moving

Location: Three Bridges Rail Operating Centre
Contract Type: Permanent
Salary: SUP 5 £47067

About the role

Your Decisions Make All the Difference

When trains are delayed, passengers and operators rely on accurate, timely information. As a Train Delay Attributor, you'll play a vital role in keeping the railway running smoothly by investigating delays, recording accurate data, and supporting solutions that minimise disruption. Your work helps millions of people get where they need to be every day.

You'll join a dedicated attribution team that monitors real-time train operations and allocates reasons for delays. This is a role where your investigative skills matter-you'll dig into the details, identify root causes, and ensure that everyone from passengers to freight operators is fully informed.

What You'll Do

  • Monitor train performance and investigate delays across your part of the network.

  • Work with signallers and colleagues to build an accurate picture of what happened and why.

  • Attribute delays correctly and produce clear, concise reports.

  • Use data and bespoke IT systems to confirm responsibility for delays quickly and accurately.

  • Communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, balancing competing priorities.

  • Support service recovery by advising managers and agreeing alternative train time information when needed.

Your experience and skills

What We're Looking For

You don't need prior rail experience-we'll provide full training. What matters most are your transferable skills

  • Data skills: Strong analytical ability and confidence working with data.

  • People skills: Build positive relationships and manage stakeholder expectations.

  • Agility: Handle competing deadlines with flexibility and focus.

  • IT skills: Comfortable using technology and Windows-based applications.

  • Decision-making: Make informed, confident decisions and stand by them.

  • Presentation skills: Communicate clearly and accurately in reports.

  • Local knowledge: Willingness to learn about railway operations and your local area.

  • Shift working: Able to work days, nights, and weekends as part of a safety-critical role.

Why Join Us?

  • Inclusive Culture: We welcome applications from everyone and are committed to creating a workplace where diversity is celebrated.

  • Impactful Work: Your decisions will help keep Britain moving and improve passenger experience.
