About the role

This is a home-based role with travel required across the Eastern Region, including but not limited to Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Staffordshire, Leicestershire, Northamptonshire, Bedfordshire and London.

Candidates will preferably be based within the central to southern areas of the Region to support effective geographical coverage and on-call response duties.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Carry out structural examinations of railway assets to determine condition and compliance with applicable standards.
  • Compile and submit examination and condition reports for review by Examining Engineers.
  • Ensure reports are technically compliant, consistent and submitted within required timescales.
  • Undertake reconnaissance visits and support specialist examinations where required.
  • Participate in on-call duties, including rapid response to bridge strikes and other incidents.
  • Make technically based decisions on site in relation to immediate safety issues, structural condition and operational capability.
  • Assist with safety-critical site support duties as required.
  • Investigate incidents related to examination activities and provide technical advice where appropriate.
  • Address technical issues identified through report reviews, briefings or audits.
  • Contribute to quality, safety and continual improvement initiatives.

 

 

 

 

Your experience and skills

Skills and experience

We're looking for someone who can demonstrate the following essential criteria:

  • Full UK driving licence
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Well organised and self-motivated
  • IT literate with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office

  • Clear commitment to safe working practices

     

We would also like but it isn't crucial to have/to be:

  • Knowledge of structural examination reporting systems, including report submission, review and assurance processes
  • Other relevant STE competencies, including STE2, STE3, STE05 and STE07, or working towards these
  • Bridge Strike Examiner (BSE)
  • ONC / HNC qualification or Technician Member of ICE
  • Previous railway experience and knowledge of railway practices
  • Controller of Site Safety (COSS) / IWA
  • Working at height and confined space awareness or training
