Network Rail High Speed Ltd. (NRHS) is responsible for operating and maintaining the UK's only international high-speed railway, High Speed (HS1).
The 109km HS1 infrastructure consists of a diverse range of railway assets such as the track, signalling, overhead line, lineside buildings, depots, viaducts and long tunnels. NRHS is also responsible for operating and maintaining three international stations; St Pancras, Stratford and Ebbsfleet International.
As a wholly owned subsidiary of Network Rail Infrastructure Ltd, NRHS is privately financed under an agreement with our client 'HS1 Ltd', undertaking a diverse range of activities from railway infrastructure maintenance and operations - through to station facilities management and retail on behalf of our client.¿

Technician - Civils & Environment
Location: Singlewell
Salary: £43816 + Outer London Allowance £1600
Shift Pattern: Days, Nights and Weekends (Safety Critical Role)
About the role

We're looking for a hands¿on, adaptable Civils & Environment Technician with a passion for infrastructure, safety and teamwork. In this frontline role, you'll support a Team Leader, contribute to a wide range of civil engineering and environmental maintenance activities, and help keep critical infrastructure operating safely and sustainably.
What you'll do
In this key position, you'll work closely with a Team Leader to organise, support and motivate a specialist Civils & Environment Maintenance team. You'll help ensure all work is delivered safely, efficiently and in line with technical, environmental and safety standards.
You'll also play an active role in a broad range of activities - including structures and drainage maintenance, earthworks, inspections, environmental management, vegetation control, and renewals work. No two days will be the same.
Acting as Team Leader When Required
There will be times when you step up and take the lead. This means:
Setting up and maintaining safe systems of work
Checking and controlling the quality of civils and environmental activities
Ensuring staff have the appropriate competencies and authorisations
Making sure vehicles, plant, tools and equipment are fit for purpose
This is a vital frontline role requiring resilience, sound judgement and strong decision¿making. Working on a shift basis, you'll maintain high standards at all times - whatever the conditions.

What You Bring
Technical Background in ONE of the Following:
Civil Engineering
Construction or Infrastructure Maintenance
Environmental Management or Environmental Services
Grounds Maintenance / Vegetation Management
Drainage, structures or earthworks maintenance
What you'll need
Understanding of civil engineering and environmental principles
Ability to identify defects and support maintenance and repair activities
Willingness to learn, adapt and expand technical knowledge
Experience promoting safe working practices
Strong communication, interpersonal and organisational skills
Full UK driving licence
Bonus Skills (Desirable)
Knowledge of rail or infrastructure environments
Experience mentoring or supporting team development
Ability to share lessons learned and drive continuous improvement
Understanding of environmental regulations and sustainability practices

Important Info:
Shifts include days, nights, and weekends.
Outdoor work in all weather conditions.
Safety-critical role: drug/alcohol testing, medical checks, hearing and eyesight tests.
Must live within 60 minutes of your depot.
Drugs and Alcohol Standard:
All prospective candidates will be required to undergo and pass a drugs and alcohol test. Your application will be rescinded if you record a positive test. All positive drugs and alcohol test results for prospective candidates will be securely held on Sentinel database and a 5 year suspension from applying for a safety critical role, a role which requires PTS certification or a Key Safety role on Network Rail Managed Infrastructure will be enforced
