Assistant Track Maintenance Engineer- Maintenance Engineering

Location: Ashford
Contract: Full-Time - (permanent)

Salary: £43,588 - £57,464

 

About the role

Role overview

Work closely with the Signal & Telecoms Maintenance Engineer, providing proactive assistance to ensure the smooth delivery of key responsibilities, operational priorities, and continuous improvement across the team.

 

What You'll do

  • Lead and develop the Technical Support team to deliver key business objectives and performance targets. 
  • Promote a safe and high-performing culture, ensuring staff competence and wellbeing. 
  • Monitor and improve asset performance, driving reliability, efficiency, and productivity. 
  • Provide expert technical advice, supporting surveys, design, and delivery activities. 
  • Oversee assurance and compliance, managing inspections, investigations, and non-conformance processes. 
  • Coordinate track monitoring activities and use data insights to inform decisions. 
  • Maintain accurate systems and records, ensuring data integrity and compliance. 
  • Review and approve technical documentation, including method statements and work plans. 
  • Deliver assurance programmes, including quality checks, surveillance, and asset condition monitoring.

 

 

 

Your experience and skills

We're looking for someone who can demonstrate the following essential & desirable criteria:

Essential

  • Strong technical expertise, with proven competence in a relevant discipline
  • Solid understanding of maintenance delivery, including processes, techniques, and best practice
  • Knowledge of safety and compliance frameworks, with a commitment to high standards
  • Experience within an operational railway environment, with an understanding of its challenges and priorities
  • In-depth knowledge of industry standards and procedures, applied confidently in day-to-day work
  • Design experience, with the ability to contribute to practical, effective solutions
  • Experience managing and resolving failures or incidents, using structured problem-solving approaches
  • Collaborative mindset, with an understanding of how different functions work together
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and organise effectively
  • IRSE Licence (Signalling)
  • HNC/HND (or equivalent qualification)

Desirable

  • Knowledge of coaching techniques
