The Southern Renewals Enterprise (SRE) is responsible for delivering the Southern Region's renewals programme across Control Periods 7 and 8 (2024-2034), representing an investment of approximately £9 billion.

About the role

The Electrification and Plant (E&P) Scheme Project Manager will work across the full portfolio of Network Rail's E&P Delivery programmes. The role is responsible for managing the safe and effective delivery of projects, supporting the Project or Programme Manager to deliver key outputs that meet client requirements to time, cost, quality, and performance.

Key Accountabilities

  1. Accountable for the delivery of Works Delivery E&P projects in a safe and environmentally responsible manner, in line with PACE, Network Rail standards, current legislation, and procedures, including HMRI guidance where appropriate.
  2. Work closely with Project Managers and teams to lead, inspire, and support successful project delivery aligned with Southern Renewal Enterprise (SRE) objectives and stakeholder needs.
  3. Manage and implement Construction Design Management (CDM) requirements to ensure regulatory compliance.
  4. Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams including commercial, programme controls, and engineering to develop solutions and maintain robust baseline plans through to project completion.
  5. Support the Project Manager in defining and maintaining project requirements, business cases, and lifecycle delivery, including benefits, costs, and risks.
  6. Manage stakeholders effectively, recognising different perspectives, levels of influence, and interests.
  7. Lead project reviews across the lifecycle, monitoring performance, risks (threats and opportunities), and progress, and implementing mitigations where required.
  8. Manage change control processes collaboratively with clients and contractors, ensuring alignment with Network Rail procedures and documentation standards.

Salary: Band 4C (£43,588-£51,719) plus Inner London Allowance £3,270.

Your experience and skills

Essential

  • Educated to degree level in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience
  • Member of the Association for Project Management (APM) or equivalent, working towards chartered status or equivalent
  • Proven knowledge and application of Construction Design Management (CDM) regulations
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
  • Relevant experience in project delivery, including contracting
  • In-depth knowledge and experience of project budget management
  • Ability to make effective, informed decisions
  • Demonstrated experience of safety management in project delivery
  • Detailed knowledge of Health and Safety legislation
  • Understanding of Network Rail accident investigation processes and procedures

Desirable

  • Experience within the rail industry, including application of PACE
  • Knowledge of Network Rail's project, investment, commercial, and procurement practices
  • Experience in risk identification, assessment, and mitigation
  • Flexible and proactive approach
  • A collaborative team player with a willingness to learn, contribute, and challenge constructively
  • Understanding of Network Rail assets and their management
