About our Route

Central Route is the Heart of Britain's Railway. More than a million people rely on our route every week, and we help transport nearly a million tonnes of freight every month. But we are more than just tracks and trains, we are a catalyst for jobs and opportunities, a connection to leisure and time with family and friends, and a foundation for communities and neighbourhoods.

We are a key part of the national network, with Birmingham New Street - the busiest station outside of London and the hub of the railway - connecting England, Scotland and Wales, with hundreds of services arriving and leaving every day.

About the role

As a CAD Technician, you will play a key role in producing and maintaining high-quality CAD drawings and 3D data to support a range of projects. Working primarily within the Autodesk suite, including AutoCAD and Autodesk ReCap, you will manage both existing and incoming CAD information, ensuring that drawings, records and associated data are accurately maintained, readily accessible and controlled in line with version management requirements. Experience of other CAD software such as MicroStation, FreeCAD, SolidWorks, Blender or SketchUp would be beneficial and valued within our CAD environment.

You'll be responsible for preparing scheme diagrams, conceptual designs and detailed plans for inclusion in reports, contract documentation and presentations, helping to communicate technical information clearly and effectively to a range of stakeholders. You'll also provide professional advice on CAD data transfer standards and systems, supporting the development of robust documentation and efficient project delivery.

Working closely with the CAD Manager, you will help promote and maintain CAD procedures and standards across projects, ensuring suppliers, consultants and contractors work in accordance with agreed requirements. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the successful delivery of projects while supporting the continuous improvement of CAD processes, data management and technical best practice.
