West Coast South: Keeping Britain Moving ¿
Stretching from Crewe to London Euston, West Coast South is part of Europe's busiest mixed-use railway-moving millions of passengers and 10% of the UK's freight each year. With over 1,000 miles of track and 64 stations, it's a vital link between major cities and local communities.
As part of the North West & Central region, we serve 1.3 million passengers daily and move 700,000 tonnes of freight weekly-covering a quarter of the national network.
About the role
Are you ready to play a vital role in safeguarding the integrity of our infrastructure? We're looking for a dedicated and detail-oriented Examiner Inspector to join our team. This is a fantastic opportunity for both internal and external candidates who are passionate about structural safety and thrive in dynamic, hands-on environments.
In this role, you'll be responsible for conducting thorough site examinations of various structures, assessing their condition within defined timescales using the ALARM system. If you're qualified in roped access, you'll also carry out specialist inspections in hard-to-reach areas. Your findings will be compiled into detailed condition reports, contributing directly to the safety and performance of our network.
You'll also support special and sensitive structure examinations, assist with tunnel inspections, and respond rapidly to incidents such as bridge strikes. Your ability to make sound, safety-critical decisions on-site-sometimes under pressure-will be crucial. Additionally, you'll participate in reconnaissance visits and provide essential support to the Examining Engineers team.

This position covers Central Route, covering the West Midlands and Chiltern areas.
What's in it for you:
Salary: Band 5, Former IMC T&C's.
Part 1 qualified Examiner - £41,109 - PTS, Mandatory Training, and successful completion of Masonry, Concrete & Timber training course. - assessed and deemed competent.
Part 2 qualified Examiner - £43,563 - Competencies as Part 1 QE, with all of the following: STE04 standard Masonry, Concrete & Timber, successful completion of Metallic Training Course, assessed deemed competent STE04 and COSS or IWA.
Part 3 qualified Examiner - £44,176 - Competencies as Part 1 and 2 QE, plus Bridge Strike Examination competency and on-call working arrangements - assessed and deemed competent.
